PLUMMETING NORDIC EXPORTS TO U.S.
Leaders in Sweden and Finland refuse to
respect laws, treaties, moral values and ethical standards.
U.S. citizens find ways to discourage, reduce and eliminate
imports of goods from Sweden and Finland. |
|
International trade provides a major part of both Sweden and
Finland’s annual Gross Domestic Product. The United States
imports approximately $18 billion annually from Sweden and
Finland. That is about 7% of their total exports. Trade with the
United States supports nearly 300,000 jobs in Sweden and
Finland. U.S. companies employ more than 100,000 people in
Sweden. The U.S. is also one of the largest investors in Sweden.
Yet business and political leaders in Finland approved seizing
assets earned by United States citizens in the United States.
And business and political leaders in Sweden have repeatedly
supported those ongoing seizures. Moreover, these leaders refuse
to discuss any resolution of this situation other than the one
they seek to cram down our throats…or up the other end!
It is hard to see how such behavior is the Right Thing. Yes,
crooks and con men may find a legal fig leaf or other refuge to
shield their personal interests. However, such actions do not
promote the honesty, mutual respect and trust essential to
international trade.
We understand that incentive compensation is a political “hot
potato” in Nordic countries. Some Nordic politicians are harshly
critical of all incentive compensation schemes. Nordic
politicians have criticized and replaced CEO’s and Board members
during political uproars over such schemes.
We have no desire to damage any Nordic leader’s career or
personal situation. Yet, we refuse to be sacrificed to appease
Nordic public opinion. The relevant treaties and agreements are
clear, host country; in this case United States, compensation
policies and practices are the relevant benchmarks. Nordic pay
schemes, pay levels, policies, and benchmarks are not.
Therefore, while we are working hard to bring about a WIN/WIN
outcome, if we cannot achieve and acceptable outcome soon, we
will begin working hard:
- To inform all Americans about Nordic cheating;
- To cut Nordic imports by 10% annually;
- To shift 20,000 Nordic jobs back to the US; and
- To bring back to the United States all monies we earned
for Sonera in the US.
Throughout this website, you will find information and
documents to help you evaluate this situation and our point of
view. You may also want to ask
TeliaSonera, Sweden and Finland for their points of view.
